Family Night!!

Many of you have heard me mention "Family Night" before.  I even dedicated an entire cook book to Family Night.  It's one my favorite weekly traditions at our house.  It seems like we fall out of the habit in the summer, but once it starts getting dark early and a little cool outside - it's the perfect time to fall right back into the habit.

Family Night at our house is once a week - on Friday night.  If you don't have time to do this every week, do it once a month.  The idea is to make it a planned event so it doesn't fall into your good intentions pile.

It does not have to be elaborate - quite the contrary.  It should be simple and the planning each week should involve everyone.

At our house, my girls take turns planning dessert and the after dinner activity.

Dessert ranges from something as simple as ice cream sundaes or boxed brownies to apple pie.  Again, it should not add stress to your already hectic life.

The activities range from a craft to a board game to charades to a puzzle.  It's about turning off the tv and spending a night together at home.  Even if your kids grumble a little at first, I promise they will love it.

No matter what age your kids are, make this a new tradition at your house.

Happy Cooking!

Favorite Family Night Dinner!!

Another part of Family Night is our "Fun Food" dinner.  We have lots of favorite "Fun Food" recipes designated for Friday night, but here is one of our all time favorites.

Pepperoni Pinwheels

1 tube refrigerated pizza crust
1/4 cup ranch salad dressing
1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese - shredded
1 12-ounce bag pepperoni - quartered
2 green onions
1 jar pizza sauce
1)  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2)  Fold out pizza dough.  It should be a rectangle, in not slightly roll into a rectangle.
3)  Spread ranch dressing evenly over dough.
4)  Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella, pepperoni quarters, and green onions over entire rectangle.
5)  Roll tightly from the long side of the rectangle.  Freeze roll for 15 minutes for better handling.
6)  Remove from freezer and slice into 1/2 inch rolls.  Place flat on a large baking sheet.  Bake for 20 minutes.
7)  Serve with pizza sauce for dipping.
